Two Pitchers Team Up as Sun Prairie Shuts Out Marshall in 7 Sun Prairie defeated Marshall 12-0 on Sunday Nate Hoffman throws 6 innings of shutout ball, and 4 Red Birds collected multiple hits. Sun Prairie got on the board in the first inning when David Diaz singled on a 0-1 count, scoring Bryce Hanson who earlier doubled. They notched 3 runs in the 3rd and six runs in the fourth inning. Marcus Rueter, Kasey Bass, Randy Molina, Bradley Calkins, and Justin Krebs each had RBIs in the 4 th frame, making the score to 10 zip. Sun Prairie would add 2 more in the 5th, to round out the scoring. Bryce Hanson collected four hits in four at bats to help lead Sun Prairie to victory. Hanson doubled in the first, singled in the third, singled in the fourth, and singled in the sixth Nate Hoffman was the winning pitcher for Sun Prairie. He lasted six innings, allowing four hits and no runs while striking out four and walking one. Nick Mailandt induced a double-play from Collin Bergholz to finish off the game. Mailandt threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Jaden Wilke took the loss for Marshall. He went four innings, allowing ten runs on 14 hits, striking out one and walking one. Sun Prairie had 17 hits on the day. Hanson, Diaz, Krebs, Molina, and Calkins all managed multiple hits for Sun Prairie. Tate Rose went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Marshall in hits. With the win today the team moves to 8-7 on the season with 3 games to play, and sitting in 6th place in the Eastern Section. Right now with a strong finish, the Red Birds could finish 11-7. With a tight race in the section, we will have to see if that will put them in the playoff hunt. (Check out the complete box score below for totals) It’s a big week of baseball ahead for the boys. They have a makeup game on Thursday with Columbus at Fireman’s Park in Columbus. The All Star Game is Friday night, and Randy Molina will represent the Red Birds at that game. Then Saturday and Sunday, it’s a home and home with Portage to finish out the season. Saturday’s game is slated for 11am, and Sundays is the usual 1pm start time in Portage.
